Federation Council chairwoman says pensions freeze unacceptable
MOSCOW, May 31 (PRIME) -- A scenario implying a freeze of pension indexation in Russia is unacceptable and nobody will adopt it, Valentina Matviyenko, chairwoman of the Federation Council, the parliament’s upper house, told reporters on Wednesday.
Business daily Vedomosti reported earlier in the day that the Economic Development Ministry had prepared a forecast that encompasses almost zero real growth of pensions until 2035.
“We have no received any official documents with such apocalyptical forecasts,” Matviyenko said.
She said she believed such a document did not exist.
“A freeze of pensions is unacceptable, such a forecast can’t be adopted in our state,” she said.
The Russian legislation encompasses annual indexation of pensions based on the inflation level, she added.
